Keep in Beat with the Bandera Library

By Mauri Guillén Fagan
Bandera Library Director

The Bandera Library is pleased to announce a grant awarded from the Bandera Electric Cooperative for three new desktop computers and new laptops for the library. The new computers will be used to expand our technology education programming. The library’s local chapter of Girls Who Code will be able to use faster and more powerful computers as the young coders learn computer coding, programming, video game creation and animation and more. The laptops will be used for an upcoming program that will teach basic computer use and skills for those who believe they are allergic to technology. On behalf of the library board, staff and volunteers, thank you to BEC for their generous and ongoing support of our library and the community.
Wednesday is one of our final installments of the Medicare 101 class. From 10:30 a.m. to noon and a second class starting at 4:30 p.m. in the Downstairs Meeting Room. If you haven’t had a chance to come in to learn about Medicare, take advantage soon. The class size is kept small so you have plenty of time to get answers to your questions. Contact the library to learn how to register or get more information.
Bring you families to the library on Saturday, April 9, from 10 a.m. to noon, for a seed ball making party. Seed balls, also called seed bombs, are an easy and inexpensive way to make our community more beautiful and also give a little back to Mother Nature. The seed balls are made from small amounts of clay, compost and wildflower seeds. You can make as many as you would like. Take your seeds balls to empty lots or open fields, toss them and let nature do the rest! In a few short weeks the beautiful wildflowers that will bloom will help local pollinators and make for some flowery vistas. Supplies are provided by the library, just show up in an old t-shirt you don’t mind getting a little dirty.
Time is ticking for submitting your taxes. The library has plenty of tax forms and instruction booklets in English and Spanish. Don’t be shy about grabbing some for you and your neighbor.
Save the Date for Thursday, April 14, at 2 p.m., when local author Glenn Clark will be here at the library to discuss his book, “Growing Up in Bandera.” Clark is a descendent of one of the early settlers of Bandera, Amasa Clark, and has distinctive ability to tell history and anecdotes about our wonderful town. All are welcome.
The Bandera Library is open Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Curbside service is available for checkouts and business services. Free Wi-Fi is available 24/7. Masks are strongly recommended while in the library building. Check out our website www.banderacountylibrary.org for all up-to-date information.
