Keep in Beat with the Bandera Library

By Mauri Guillén Fagan
Bandera Library Director

Today is Star Wars Day! May the Fourth be with you! To celebrate Star Wars Day, come by the library to check out the DVDs or any of the library’s novels and graphic novels set in the Star Wars universe.
This morning at 10:30 a.m. and again this afternoon at 4:30 p.m. is one of the final installments of the Medicare 101 class in the Downstairs Meeting Room. If you are about to age into Medicare or are already receiving benefits, this class can help you navigate the complexities of the system. Contact the library to get more information on registering. Class size is kept small so that everyone attending can have their questions answered.
Tomorrow, May 5th is the meeting of our Monthly Book Club at 10 a.m. in the Genealogy Room. The group will be discussing Salman Rushdie’s “Quichotte”. The novel is a retelling of the classic novel of “Don Quixote” by Miguel Cervantes. A mediocre author named Sam DuChamp decides to pay homage to one of his favorite books, “Don Quixote”, and creates the character Quichotte. Quichotte is a well-meaning, but addle-brained salesman who falls in love with a TV star. Sam and his (imaginary) son Sancho, decide to impress the TV star who has no idea he exists, by going on a cross-country journey through America. Just as Quichotte is facing a mid-life crisis, Sam DuChamp has his own troubles to deal with. The Monthly Book Club meets the first Thursday of the month at 10 a.m. Contact the library to get more information on their reading schedule and upcoming meetings.
This Saturday, May 7th we have our monthly book fair hosted by the Friends of the Library. The book fair has books, magazines, puzzles, audiobooks and more all available by donation.  Your donation will support the purchase of new titles for the library’s collection. Stop by between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m.
On Saturday, May 7th, we also are hosting a wildflower paper making demonstration. Using recycled paper and flower petals or wildflower seeds, you can make a beautiful handmade gift for Mother’s Day or any other occasion. Join us on the back patio from 10 a.m. to noon. From all of the staff and volunteers here at the Bandera Library, we would like to wish all a very Happy Mother’s Day.
The Bandera Library is open Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Curbside service is available for checkouts and business services. Free Wi-Fi is available 24/7. Masks are recommended while in the library building. Check out our website www.banderacountylibrary.org for all up-to-date information.
Happy tales, y’all.
