FATHER’S DAY, Sunday, June 19, when fathers are honored by their children, was first observed in 1908 to complement Mother’s Day. After a sporadic history, President Lyndon Johnson issued a proclamation in 1966 designating the third Sunday in June as Father’s Day. In 1972, President Richard Nixon made it a permanent national holiday when he signed it into law.

PIPE CREEK DANCEHALL MARKET DAYS will host the next event Saturday, June 18, from 10 a.m. to 4 p..m. Aloha! The theme is Hawaiian Luau, with live music by Jakob Botello and Ken Bunson, food trucks and lots of vendors. There is still time to grab those Father’s Day gifts. PIPE CREEK DENTAL CENTER will hold their Grand Opening, complete with ribbon cutting, on Saturday, June 18, 1-3 p.m., in the dental office at 9782 Hwy. 16S, in Pipe Creek. LAKEHILLS UNITED METHODIST CHURCH, 150 Ave. J in Lakehills, offers a free community meal, Bread of Life, every Monday on school days, at 5 p.m.
In addition, the church offers a Food Pantry every other week and they will do it again Friday, June 24, 10 a.m. to noon. Call 830-751-2404 for more information or follow on Facebook.

LAKEHILLS AREA LIBRARY has a new artist exhibit to check out. Joy Fisher Hein is an award winning artist, painter, sculptor and jewelry designer. She is exhibiting her paintings at the library for the next few weeks and the library welcomes patrons to come and enjoy. Hein is also a Master Gardener and will teach a class on organic gardening at the library, 7200 FM 1283, on Saturday, June 25, at 10:30 a.m. The public is welcome to this free class. AMERICAN LEGION POST 410, 147 Legion Dr. in Lakehills, is open to the public every day except Thursdays, from 3 p.m. They serve home cooked meals every Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. For $8 a plate, you get an entree, sides and beverage. Desserts are available.

The Post is looking for individuals or organizations who would like to be in their annual July 4th Parade, to be held on Monday, July 4. The parade starts at 11 a.m., followed by the chicken and sausage barbecue at noon, with live music entertainment at 1 p.m. The profits from this event will go toward the medical bills for the victims of the Uvalde shooting. LAKEHILLS COMMUNITY CENTER, 11225 PR 37, has several weekly activities going on, including Yoga, exercise, Bridge, Karate, and dominoes. Follow on Facebook or call 830-751-9904 for more information.
The Center will host the LHCC Volunteer Drive on Sunday, June 26, from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., with a free lunch for their volunteers. The meal includes soup, salad, cornbread, and dessert. If interested in volunteering, come to learn what makes the Center run.
The Cajun Festival, Sept. 24, is the major fundraiser for the Center and they are seeking volunteers. There is a place for everyone; call Barbara Engel to sign up at 830-460-0600.

BANDERA COUNTY TRASH INITIATIVE is seeking volunteers and funds. They are looking into starting the recycle program again. If interested in cleaning up the county, call Bob at 210-413-7264; if interested in recycling, call Henry at 469-445-9873.

LAKE LEVEL
On June 14, Medina Lake is at 15.1 per cent capacity. The lake level is 1002.91 feet, which is down 61.29 feet. The Medina Lake County Park has been temporarily closed.
The Medina River has a flow of 0.0 cfs in Bandera, standing 2.65 feet deep at the gage. This means the Medina River is not running right now.
