Local Sports Kicking Off!

The Bandera Prophet
With the stands on both sides of Bulldog Stadium about equally filled, Friday’s three-way scrimmage between Natalia, Tom Moore Ingram and Bandera was beneficial for everyone involved.
Local fans got their first look at the Bulldogs starting teams in sub-varsity and varsity, with both looking good just two weeks into the season.
It was the first action against an opponent for each team and while there were mistakes made, in the end each teams squads showed marked improvement from start to finish.
The Bandera coaching staff touted quite a few varsity players on both sides of the ball.
Bulldog QB Riley Haley was 7-9-159-1 on the night with Solomon Alexander going 5-130 on the receiving end including a 70-yard score against Natalia and RB Jackson Vogel scored a short yardage touchdown. Defensively, the play of Alexander, Vogel, Kevin Rodriguez and Jorge Cabasos was at the forefront for the Bulldogs.
The on-field meeting after the scrimmage had coaches motivating and complimenting the team for a job well done. Some of the remarks from various coaches were:
“Guys, good job answering the call physically and making adjustments on that second drive. We have to stay mentally focused.”
“Let's keep getting better each day.”
“I was happy with the communication defensively, we were flying around.”
In closing, Head Coach Joel Fontenot-Amedee reminded the players of the big picture.
“The most important thing you will do next week is set the expectation for excellence in the classroom. You are setting yourself up for success for the entire school year and your future.”
Bandera will head to Comfort to scrimmage the Bobcats Thursday evening before the season opens against Poteet on Friday, Aug. 26.
Remember, games times for this season have been moved up to a 7 p.m. kickoff.

Lakehills resident Brody Martin and the “In the Red” hydroplane racing team scored another runner up finish, this one at the Southern Dragboat Racing Association’s 2022 Paris Powerboat Grand Prix held at Lake Crook in Paris, Texas, this past weekend.
Martin was the number one qualifier with a 6.0065 second run against a 6.000 index for the Quick Eliminator class.
The next three qualifiers were hot on his heels with just .045 of a second separating first from fourth place.
Martin made the finals where he redlit (left before the green) by .167 seconds and ran it out to a 5.998 second run which would have disqualified him for running too fast.
With one race left in the season, the Spring Creek Finals on Lake Nasworthy in San Angelo on Sept. 23-25, Martin is currently leading the class by 114 points as he and the team look to score the class championship.
