Bandera High School Speech and Debate Team members place in tournament

By Emily Huber
BHS Speech and Debate Coach

The BHS speech and debate team had its first outing of the year at the La Vernia TFA tournament on Saturday, Sept 10, and it was a great day for competition.
Individual recognitions go to:
(Sophomore) Madilyn Lewis - semi finalist in Student Congress. This was her first showing in this event and her second year on the team;
(Junior) Sydthony Fletes - semi finalist in Prose. Syd is also the captain of the Interp team and a two-year member;
(Freshman) Cassandra Steffler placed 9th in Student Congress out of 98 total competitors at her very first tournament.

We traveled 16 of our 20-member team on Saturday. Of those, seven are in their novice year of competition and I am looking forward to a successful future for them.  Additionally, nine of the 16 competed for the first time in their event with two of them making it into the elimination rounds. It was a good way to start the year and I can't wait to see what they will accomplish next.

Attending the tournament were:
Elijah Sarazua
Katelyn Mendez
Steven Koonce
Lillian Dean
Savannah Venegas
Braden Valle
Sydthony Fletes
Isabella Chapa
Madilyn Lewis
Micah McCreary
Carter Rissmiller
Cameron Roberson
Alyssa Ruch
Josh Sartin
Cassandra Steffler
Elias Toomire

Way to go, Bulldogs!
