Keep in Beat with the Bandera Library
By Mauri Guillén Fagan
Bandera Library Director
These last few months of the year always seem to fly by. The days are getting shorter, but the to-do list keeps getting longer and longer. With that in mind, the library has created a take-home program called Holiday Self-Care Kits. Each month from October until December you can come and get a small kit with inexpensive and easy ways to de-stress. The kits are first come, first serve so be sure to grab one the next time you are in the library.
Thursday nights are Family Reading Nights at the Library. Our newest program to support children’s literacy takes place on Thursday nights from 5:30 - 7 p.m. in the Downstairs Meeting Room. Local families who want to participate can come by and read with a parent or volunteer. Books are free and the time spent reading with a child is priceless. In addition to Family Reading Night, the library is hosting a children’s book drive the whole month of October. These books will be given to trick-or-treaters at the annual Halloween event, Nightmare on Maple Street. Please bring new or gently used books for children to teens by Oct. 29 and know your gift will bring a smile to a young reader.
Bandera Kronkosky Public Library is currently home to a special exhibition coordinated by Ukrainian San Antonio. This exhibition will be in the Artist of the Month Gallery until Oct. 21. Each piece tells the story of the Holodomor, a famine genocide that occurred in Soviet Ukraine 90 years ago.
In case you hadn’t heard, the library is hiring. We are looking for a program coordinator to organize and support our programs and events as well as develop new programs. The library is also looking for a maintenance person. This person will be in charge of keeping the library’s facilities clean and also do small handyman repairs. Apply today.
Lastly, the League of Women Voters non-partisan Voter Guides are here. Stop by the library to pick up a hard copy or contact the library to have the digital file emailed to you.
The Bandera Kronkosky Public Library is open Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Saturdays, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Curbside service is available for checkouts and business services. Free Wi-Fi is available 24/7. Check out our website www.banderacountylibrary.org for all up-to-date information.
Happy tales, y’all.
