Medina Sports Report

By Lindsey Kunz
Medina ISD Superintendent

Medina Sweeps District Rival
Medina High School football and volleyball teams earned big victories over district rival Leakey Eagles on Thursday and Friday.
The football win moves the Bobcats to 8-0 for the year and 2-0 in district play and the volleyball win keeps the Lady Cats playoff hopes alive.
Due to the scheduling of officials, the football game was played on Thursday in Leakey and was proclaimed the “Hill Country Nation Game of the Week.”
Head Coach Mark Coley stated before game time that the Bobcats would need to play strong defense to obtain the victory and the Bobcats did not disappoint, holding the Eagles to just 14 points in the contest. Offensively, the Bobcats played exceptional as well, putting 64 points on the board to conclude the game in the middle of the third quarter.
Senior Wyatt Boatman was selected as MVP of the game by the Hill Country Nation staff. He, along with teammates Britton Wickham and Cason Johnson, were interviewed at the conclusion of the game and gave kudos to every player on the team for their work each week to make this football season so successful.

The Lady Cat varsity volleyball followed up with matches in Leakey on Friday. The match was the second matchup of the season for Leakey and Medina with the first contest ending in the Lady Cats favor in a tiebreaker by a score of 19-17.
Friday’s contest would be almost identical. Strong play and the Lady Cat motto of “Hit or Be Hit” proved effective as the Lady Cats fought to earn the victory in another five set match by a final score of 17-15 in the tiebreaker.
The junior varsity Lady Cats swept the Lady Eagles in straight sets to continue their undefeated district schedule.
Both the Bobcats and Lady Cats are open this Friday but will continue play on Tuesday, Oct. 25 for volleyball and Friday, Oct. 28 will be Homecoming for football with junior high kickoff at 5 p.m. followed by varsity at 7:30 p.m.

Medina Cross Country Advances to Regional
Both Medina Varsity Girls and Boys advanced to the Regional Cross-Country Meet in Corpus Christi on Tuesday, Oct. 25 by earning District Runner-Up honors on Monday, Oct. 10. Senior Charli McCabe won the District Champion honors individually taking control of the race early in the course. Sophomore Ahnika Grassie earned Top 10 honors, as well, capturing fourth place.
The boys team was led by freshman standouts Holland Cook and Rylan Mills who placed fourth and ninth respectively.
