County Fire marshal Jason Rutherford submitted his letter of resignation two weeks ago, effective immediately. Commissioners will discuss filling the vacancy during their regular session on Thursday.
~ In other business, commissioners welcomed Mark Zoeller, the finalist for the Bandera County Extension - Ag and Natural Resources Agent. Zoeller is currently the Ag Extension Agent in Schleicher County. He will begin in Bandera on Nov. 1.
~ Commissioners submitted a counter offer to a property owner for right-of-way acquisition at English Crossing and the Medina River. The county counter-offered $5,000 for .115 acres, in response to his asking price of $10,000.
The county will pay $2,026 to the Mustang Crossing Property Owners Assocation for right-of-way acquisition. The county is working with the Texas Department of Transportation to build a bridge where the current low water crossing is, which routinely floods during heavy rain events.
~ Commissioners approved a resolution authorizing a county grant to the Bandera County Committee on Aging, Inc., for $25,000. Silver Sage Executive Director Art Crawford said the grant will help offset the costs of the $190,000 Meals On Wheels food budget. Currently 271 volunteers help prepare and deliver the meals.
~ Pct. 3 Commissioner Jack Moseley said volunteers are gathering forces to decorate the courthouse lawn for Christmas. The lights will go up on Friday, Nov. 18, and come down Saturday, Jan. 7. They will turn on the first Friday after Thanksgiving and remain on until New Year’s Day.
Moseley said State Trooper Chip Aragones will again hang the lights on the courthouse.
“He said he’s got more lights this year than last year,” Moseley said.
~ Two alternate election judges were appointed to fill vacancies after the former election judges withdrew for family responsibilities. For Pct. 407, Suzanne Jackson was appointed; for Pct. 410, Jimmy Hood was appointed.
