Keep in Beat with the Bandera Library

By Mauri Guillén Fagan
Bandera Library Director

We are kicking off a great month this November here at the Bandera Kronkosky Public Library. The library has begun our annual Fall fundraiser. Our goal is to raise $40,000 to cover our operational expenses. If you haven’t received your letter in the mail yet, stop by the library and get a donation form. Whether you can give $5 or $500, know that every donation is both welcome and appreciated.
Today at 4:30 p.m. is our monthly Medicare 101 class in the Downstairs Meeting Room. Get to know your Medicare coverage and get any questions answered. On Thursday, Nov. 3, the Monthly Book Club will meet in the Genealogy Room at 10 a.m. The group will be discussing “The Martian” by Andy Weir.
Also on Thursday, local author Tenia Spell Houck will be a special Storytime guest and will be reading from her new children’s book called “A Place Between Here and There.” Come by to meet the author, hear her lovely story, and get a copy of her book. Storytime starts at 10:30 a.m. in the Children’s Library. Thursday is also Family Reading Night from 5:30 - 7 p.m. in the Downstairs Meeting Room.
This Saturday, Nov. 5, is the monthly book fair hosted by the Friends of the Library. These monthly book fairs, along with the ongoing book nook in the library, are all dedicated to raising funds for the purchase of new books. I am here to remind you that Christmas is only seven weeks away. What better way to get all your holiday shopping done in one go than by getting a good book for your loved ones?
Unless you currently live under a rock, you will know that Election Day is just around the corner on Tuesday, Nov. 8. While the Bandera Library is not a polling place, we work to make sure you have what have what you need to cast your vote. Pick up a copy of the League of Women Voters’ non-partisan Voter Guides which we have both in English and Spanish. If you have a question about where your polling place is, the staff can help you find out that information. Heck, we’ll even print out a google maps directions for you to make sure you know where you are going.
The Bandera Kronkosky Public Library is open Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Saturdays, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Curbside service is available for checkouts and business services. Free Wi-Fi is available 24/7. Check out our website www.banderacountylibrary.org for all up-to-date information. You can also follow us on Facebook and Instagram @banderalibrary.
