The Bandera JV football team capped off its best season in nearly a decade by defeating Carrizo Springs 38-0 at Bulldog Stadium Thursday night.
It took the Bulldogs offense some time to get rolling, but they rattled off three touchdowns in the final three minutes of the second quarter to blow the game wide open.
Bandera got on the board initially with a one-yard touchdown run from Julian De La Paz before adding a score on a 53-yard touchdown pass from Jeffry Thomas to Dylan Peace.
Ibraham MacNeil scored on a 21–yard jet sweep from Thomas, and Peace connected with Benton Cloudt on a 27-yard touchdown pass as time expired in the first half.
In the second half, Riley Moran recovered a blocked punt for a touch down and Cristian Garcia-Carrillo connected on a 20-yard field goal.
Thomas finished with 108 total yards and two touchdowns (74 passing, 19 rushing and 15 receiving) while Peace added 107 total yards and two touchdowns (54 passing, 53 receiving).
Riley Moran had six carries for 43 yards, De La Paz had seven carries for 30 yards, Colten Hauer had eight carries for 30 yards and Dane Barnett had two carries for 14 yards.
Benton Cloudt had two catches for 39 yards and a touchdown, MacNeil had one catch for 21 yards and a touchdown, and Ben Marks had a 10-yard reception from James Bower.
The Bulldogs held the Wildcats scoreless from start to finish thanks to a stout defensive effort that was led by the play of Damien Cadena, West Cloudt, Julian Torres, Benton Cloudt and Jackson Satterfield.
Bandera finishes the season at 7-3, the program’s second consecutive winning record at the JV level. The JV Bulldogs will now shift their focus to having a strong off -season in hopes of moving up to the varsity level next season.
"I am extremely proud of the way our JV group improved from start to finish this year. We had a lot of freshmen playing in key spots and they mixed well with a sophomore class that had experience from last year. These guys have finished with a winning JV record in back- to-back seasons, and that hasn't happened in a long time. I can't wait to see the way they attack the offseason with the goal of stepping into a role at the varsity level next year."
