Light Up the Hills
Register by Dec. 8 to enter Best Decorated contest

“In 4-H, we believe in the power of young people. We see that every child has valuable strengths and real influence to improve the world around us.”
This is one of the first statements on the national 4-H website https://4-h.org/about/what-is-4-h/ and we are seeing it in action this November and December in the east end of Bandera County.
“Light Up the Hills” is a community Christmas decorating event being initiated by the Pipe Creek/Lakehills 4-H Club this fall demonstrating strength and influence by our local young people. Wanting to see their own community with the lights and signs of Christmas that delight young and old, the club has taken on the task of encouraging all businesses, nonprofits and churches in Pipe Creek and Lakehills (78063 zip code) to join in bringing the spirit of Christmas to life. The plan is to get as many participants as possible to decorate the outside of their buildings or fence lines by Dec. 10.
An additional aspect of the event is that participants may register with the Pipe Creek/Lakehills 4-H Club to be involved in a competition for best decorated and to be recognized for their involvement in the festivities. A floating trophy plaque will be housed at the winner’s place of business until the fall of 2023 and a plate with the winner’s name will be permanently placed on the plaque. Those that have been early to register in this new holiday tradition include 4-Way Bar & Grill, Cloud 9 Snacks, Crane-Quist Ventures, Cutaway Salon & Spa, House of Liquor, Lakehills Area Library, Lakehills United Methodist Church, Lucy’s BBQ, Medina Lake Clinic, Out of the Way Cafe, Studio Z Personal Training & Wellness, Thousand Trails, and the Tiny Schnitzel Haus. Meanwhile the 4-H club itself has received permission to decorate the hill on the southwest corner of 1283 and PR 37, and the young people are busily making plans to spread Christmas cheer through their display.
If you are interested in registering as a part of this great community event, please send an email to pclh4h@gmail.com or contact Renee at 956-521-7694 by Dec. 8. Whether or not you register, please join the 4-H kids in their effort to “Light Up the Hills!”
