Kids Fish for Fun event set for December 20

By Jessica Nohealapa’ahi

The city’s annual Fish For Fun kids event will be Tuesday, Dec. 20. Made possible each year by donations, volunteers, Texas Parks and Wildlife and the City of Bandera, kids from 2 to 102 are invited to join the fun and try to hook one of several hundred Winter Rainbow Trout just dropped in the water (although anyone older than 17 years will need a fishing license).
Sponsors include Bandera Electric Cooperative ($1,000 donation), Zebco (a 50 percent discount on 80 Dock Demon fishing poles), Adurra Engineering (20 pizzas), The Dough Joe (10 pizzas), the Bandera Fire Department (bottled water), Lowes (chips), Republic Services (sunglasses and $300 that funded 100 beanies and gloves), and others.
“The public works department, city treasurer and Marshal’s Office typically always donate their time and come down to participate. We have several volunteers in the community who attend yearly also,” event organizer and city secretary Jill Shelton said.
The Fish For Fun will take place from 5-6 p.m., at Bandera City Park. Fishing poles, tackle, pizza, chips and drinks will be provided at no charge. The daily bag limit is five trout.
