Keep in Beat with the Bandera Library
By Mauri Guillén Fagan
Bandera Library Director
I’ll just go ahead and say it. This is the most wonderful time of year. Once the kiddos (finally) go to sleep, my favorite thing in the world is to pour a cup of tea and snuggle up in front of the Christmas tree with a great book. Make sure that you have a nice, cozy pile of books to read by the fire or in front of the tree by stopping by the library this week. We do have updated hours for the holidays. The library’s holiday hours are as follows: we will close early on Friday, Dec. 23, at 1 p.m., and we will reopen on Tuesday, Dec. 27, at 9 a.m.
Our weekly programming will also have a brief hiatus for the rest of the year. Family Reading Night, normally Thursday nights at 5:30 p.m. will meet again beginning Jan. 5. Storytime for pre-schoolers will also not meet this week. Dungeons and Dragons, who usually meet on Saturdays from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., will meet again on Jan. 7. You can stay up to date on any programming changes by following the library on social media or checking our public calendar page at https://banderalibrary.org/calendar-1 .
Please save the date for an author visit coming up next month on Friday, Jan. 13, at 2:30 p.m. Pepper Anne is a Texas author who writes Texas true crime thrillers. Her latest two books are about the notorious Texas swindler and mastermind behind the Grayson County Five. These are the kind of stories where today’s Western authors get their inspiration. Meet Bob Leach, a late 19th century desperado who listed on his crime resumé conman, kidnapper, cattle thief, blackmail and other things simply not fit to print in my column. Be sure to come by and meet Pepper Anne and learn all about Leach’s wild history.
Also coming up in January is a new program for adults who want to learn Spanish. Classes will be on Tuesday and Thursday mornings from 10:30 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. in the Texas Room (formerly known as the Genealogy Room). The class will be by donation to cover the cost of the materials. Contact the library to get more information.
May your holiday be filled with love and cheer from all of us at the Bandera Kronkosky Public Library!
The Bandera Kronkosky Public Library is open Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Saturday 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Curbside service is still available for checkouts and business services. Free Wi-Fi is available 24/7. Stay up to date with library events by following us on Facebook (@Bandera County Library), Instagram (@banderalibrary), or sign up for our monthly newsletter through our website at www.banderalibrary.org.
Happy tales, y’all.
