Keep in Beat with the Bandera Library

By Mauri Guillén Fagan
Bandera Library Director

Oh heavens how is this my last article of 2022? From everyone here at the Bandera Kronkosky Public Library, Happy New Year! The library will be closed Saturday, Dec. 31, and will reopen on Tuesday, Jan. 3, at 9 a.m.
Start the new year right by picking up a new hobby or learning a new language. Beginning Jan. 17 our new program for adults who want to learn Spanish kicks off. Classes will be on Tuesday and Thursday mornings, from 10:30 a.m. until 11:30 a.m., in the Texas Room (formerly known as the Genealogy Room). The class will be by donation to cover the cost of the materials. Contact the library to get more information.
Thursday, Jan. 5, is the Monthly Book Club meeting in the Texas Room at 10 a.m. The group will be discussing “The Last Garden in England” by Julia Kelly. This novel is set in a beautiful English garden in three different time periods. We first meet the young, talented Venetia Smith who has been hired to design the gardens of Highbury House in 1907. Next, the gardens and the families whose homes surround it are all threatened by the horrors of WWII in 1944. Finally, in present day, Emma Lovett has dedicated her career to bringing life back to abandoned gardens. She comes across the ruins of the Highbury Garden and is presented with the opportunity of a lifetime.
Saturday, Jan. 7, is the Monthly Book Fair hosted by the Friends of the Library. The holidays means there is an awful lot of peopling you have to do. Recharge with some new reads – there are hundreds of new and gently used books available by donation. As always, all the proceeds go to purchasing new titles for the library’s collection.
The Bandera Kronkosky Public Library is open Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Saturday, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Curbside service is available for checkouts and business services. Free Wi-Fi is available 24/7. Stay up to date with library events by following us on Facebook (@Bandera County Library), Instagram (@banderalibrary), or sign up for our monthly newsletter through our website at www.banderalibrary.org.
Happy tales, y’all.
