Fundraiser planned for family displaced by housefire

A fundraiser has been scheduled to help a local family that lost their home to a devastating fire on New Year’s Eve.
On Saturday, Jan. 31, at about 5:30 p.m., authorities responded to calls for a structure fire near Lower Mason Creek Road. According to Bandera County Fire Marshal Jason Rutherford, the fire spread to two automobiles after fully engulfing a house belonging to Leonard and Ashley Coiner, displacing six people. The cause of the fire is under investigation, and insurance is pending.
Rutherford said the Bandera, Castle Lake, Medina and Pipe Creek Volunteer Fire Departments responded. The American Red Cross is helping the family, and Alana Smith is hosting a fundraiser on Jan. 28, at the Red Horse Saloon in Bandera.
Clothing sizes are: 21-year-old male: large shirt, 31x36 jeans and 11-11.5 shoes; 19-year-old male: large shirt, 32x38 jeans and 11-11.5 shoes; 17-year-old male: large shirt, 32 waist jeans and 8-9.5 shoes; 8-year-old female: size 10-12 kids. Leonard Coiner wears a large shirt and 38x34 jeans; Ashley Coiner wears a large shirt and size 12 pants.
“We are looking for auction items to be donated, and potato salad, beans, brisket, onions, jalapeños. I think we've got the rest. We need about four more briskets,” Smith said.
Anyone wishing to donate cash or gift cards may drop them off with Glen or Marcia at the Bandera General Store.
The Coiner Family Benefit will be at the Red Horse Saloon, 2440 Hwy. 16, from noon to 5 p.m. For more information, call Smith at 210-749-9227 or Kaitlyn at 210-842-5020.
