The Bulldogs took to the road to face Navarro in the second game of district play Tuesday night with the varsity winning a close contest, the JV getting a win in OT and the freshman losing a heartbreaker in the last few seconds.
Varsity
Bandera started district play in 2023 win a hard fought 54-50 win over the Navarro Panthers on the road.
Again, a slow start had Bandera playing catchup early, trailing for all but 10 seconds in the first quarter until Kayden Brown, hit a three pointer to take a 14-11 lead.
Playing under pressure, a scenario they seem to thrive in, the Bulldogs lead for the rest of the contest, extending their lead to as much as 12 points early in the fourth before Navarro had a run late in the game to close the Bandera lead to four at the buzzer.
Brown led the Bulldog scoring with 16 while shooting 45 percent from outside the arc (4-9) and Alex Dirck had a team high nine rebounds.
“Road wins in district are a big deal when it comes to competing for a playoff spot and our kids battled hard to earn a victory in their first district road game.
It was a hostile environment and an intense atmosphere down the stretch, but I was really proud of the way our guys maintained their composure and finished the job.
Friday night will be another big district game at home, and we’re looking forward to a big crowd in our first
home game of 2023,” coach Brady Keane said.
Bandera moves to 1-1 in district with the win and 13-11 on the season.
Friday is Teacher Appreciation Night with all Bandera ISD faculty, staff members and their families able to attend the game for no cost with an employee ID. Tip-off is set for 6:30 p.m.
Friday’s contest will be the third game of district for both teams and the Eagles are 0-2 in district following losses to Fredericksburg and Davenport.

The Bulldog JV improved their record to 9-4 with an overtime win against Navarro.
Going into halftime, Bandera had a comfortable 19-10 lead and saw that deteriorate as a rough third quarter had Navarro go on a 13-3 run to make it 23-22 headed into the fourth.
Both teams traded baskets with Bandera winning the fourth,10-9 to send the game into overtime with Randon Wheeler’s three pointer late and Jeffry Thomas hitting a pair of clutch free throws to get the 42-41 win.
Wheeler and Thomas led Bandera scoring with 15 and 11 points respectively.

After a fairly close three quarters of play, Navarro outscored Bandera 11-4 in the fourth to take the win in a low scoring affair, 24-22.
Bandera tied the game with a few seconds left but Navarro hit a basket late to go up by two for the win.
Evan Bowman and Logan Pierce led Bandera with five points each as the freshmen fall below the .500 mark at 6-7 for the season.

Bandera hosted Navarro for girls basketball action Tuesday night.
The 21-4 Navarro Lady Panthers bested the Bandera Lady Bulldogs Tuesday night by a 52-14 score.
Bandera falls to 0-3 in district play and Navarro moves to 3-1 with the win.
In earlier JV action, Navarro took a 33-22 win over Bandera.
No stats were received.
Soccer
The Bulldog boys varsity lost a 3-2 contest against Uvalde Tuesday evening to start the season 0-1 and the Lady Bulldogs took an 8-0 loss against Burnet’s Lady Bulldogs.
No stats were received for either contest.
