Groundwater District to hold quarterly meeting Thursday

The Bandera County River Authority and Groundwater District Board of Directors will hold its quarterly meeting on Thursday, during which directors are expected to discuss and consider for action a permit request from Vanderpool Management, LP, to pump up to 65,200,000 gallons of water per year.
Two applications have been received by the management company, one for an annual production limit of 130 acre-feet and one for 70 acre-feet, for a house and barn well, respectively. One acre-foot measures 326,000 gallons of water.
“The Bandera Canyonlands Alliance (BCA) is concerned about the significant amount of water that is being requested. Surrounding wells throughout the region could be at risk by this amount of pumping since most wells are drilled into the same aquifer. This is also the formation that feeds many of the natural springs in the area that flow into creeks, rivers, and spring-fed lakes,” BCA states on its website.
The meeting will begin at 10 a.m., in the BCRAGD offices at 440 FM 3240 Bandera.
