www.boerneperformingarts.comThe audience in Champion Auditorium on Feb. 24 will have a rare opportunity to be dazzled by the dramatic culture, costumes, dance, music and high energy of the Royal National Dance Company of Georgia performing “Fire of Georgia”. If you were a collector, this would count among your most unusual and thrilling prizes. This innovative dance troupe will be bringing dozens of dancers, including youngsters from their Academy of Dance, to perform traditional folk dances with a modern attitude and exquisite costuming.
The diverse cultures of Georgia will come to life on stage in a blend of athleticism, grace, strength, and beauty as they artfully blend the professional devotion of classically trained dancers with their unique expression through choreography of the traditional life and dances from the Caucasus region of Asia.
Created by Gela Potskhishvili, Knight of the Georgian Order of Honor, the company’s co-founder, and co-directed with Maia Kiknadze, the Royal National Dance Company has done much to preserve, express and promote Georgian folk traditional culture. In the best traditions of the role of artists, they employ innovative and novel choreography representing the past and present of the Georgian people and the rich culture and arts of their homeland in Georgia. They have performed for myriad audiences in Germany, France, Holland, the Russian Federation, Poland and New Zealand. They beautifully and powerfully illustrate why dance meets no language barriers in telling the stories of a people and its traditions as they dance, soar and spin through a riveting performance covering every inch of the stage.
Before the evening performance and at intermission, students will become the stars of the show as the Champion High School Jazz Ensemble under the direction of Jason Younts and Matt Pehl will entertain in the lobby.
Local sponsors making this performance possible include the City of Boerne, Bandera Electric Cooperative, Cordillera Ranch, and Caleb Clark-Edward Jones.
Previews of all artists in the 2023 season are available at www.BoernePerformingArts.com where you can purchase individual tickets ($60 - $40 - $30 - $20 student). For questions, please call the Boerne Performing Arts Message Line at 830-331-9079.
