Bulldogs advance to second round with 72-62 win over Cuero

The Bandera Bulldogs playoff run will continue after a 72-62 victory over the Cuero Gobblers in the first round of the 2023 UIL Texas Boys State Basketball Championships Monday evening.
The playoff win was the first for the program since the 2013-2014 season.
Next up this Friday will be the District 25-4A champs, the El Campo Ricebirds with the game being contested at Seguin High School at 6 p.m.
The 21-10 (11-1) Ricebirds missed a perfect season in district, with a late season 76-73 loss to Wharton. That name might sound familiar to longtime Bulldog basketball fans, Wharton took Bandera out of the playoffs in the 13-14 season in a second round, hard fought 60-58 loss.
Current Bulldog head coach, Brady Keane, was a member of that Bulldog squad.
The Ricebirds advanced to face Bandera after a first round 65-54 win over Columbia, the fourth seed out of District 26, Tuesday.
The winner of this game will get the winner of the Stafford versus Wimberley contest sometime next week.
