‘All Gave Some…Some Gave All’
March 29 is designated as National Vietnam War Veterans Day. This is a time to pay special tribute to the nine million Americans who served during the Vietnam era, to the 58,267 names memorialized on the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C., and to those who never received the recognition they deserved when they returned to America from war.
It has been 50 years. March 29, 1973 is the day U.S. Military Assistance Command, Vietnam was disestablished and the day the last U.S. combat troops departed Vietnam. In addition, on and around this same day, the U.S. Vietnam War Commemoration stated that Hanoi released the last of its acknowledged prisoners of war.
On Sunday, March 26, from 2-5 p.m., the Bandera American Legion Post 157 will honor our Vietnam era veterans and their families with a special pin, refreshments with a special cake, maps and displays, door prizes, Vietnam era music, and C-Ration nibbles and “bottom shelf” beer. There will tables to place your military memorabilia onto for sharing. The Bandera Prophet will be on hand to capture memories from participants for their “Veterans Voice” portion of their online publication. Rancho Cortez is offering a free night stay on March 29 in your room of choice and a long list of activities are included.
We welcome all who would like to pay tribute to our amazing Vietnam era veterans to stop by the Legion. The Post is located at 205 12th Street, across from the Western Trail Antiques and the Chevron Ice House. For more information, contact 830-796-7528, Susan at 210-788-9160 or FaceBook: https://www.facebook.com/AmericanLegionPost157BanderaTexas
