Cardenas moves on to regional golf

The Bandera High School boys and girls golf teams competed at the District 27-4A tournaments last week and demonstrated significant progress over the two- day events to end the season on a positive note.
Despite a tough start Monday at The Buckhorn Golf Course in Comfort, the girls' team bounced back on Tuesday and impressively reduced their total score by 23 strokes.
The Lady Bulldogs finished just nine shots behind Canyon Lake, with junior Maryssa Fernandez tying for 17th place individually.
On the boys' side, the Bulldogs initially struggled as a team on Day 1, but stepped up their game on Day 2, improving by 55 strokes.
Jesse Cardenas led the way for Bandera shooting impressive back-to-back 75s to finish in a tie for fourth individually and securing a spot at the Class 4A Region IV golf tournament in Victoria at the Colony Creek Golf Course in two weeks.
The top regional golfers will advance to the Class 4A state golf tourn ament, set for May 22-23 at Legends Golf Course in Kingsland.
