Softball and Baseball Earn Big District Wins

By Lindsey Kunz
Medina ISD Superintendent

Medina Softball and Baseball had a great week earning big wins over district opponents. Lady Cat Softball led off the week with a victory over district host San Saba by a score of 20-8.
The Lady Cats jumped out to an early lead and never looked back completing the game in five innings. Hallie Kunz, Kytlin Peterson, Kaitlyn Grover, Ahnika Grassie, Charli McCabe, and Hattie Barton drove in runs in the game to help the Lady Cats secure the victory. Barton also earned the win on the mound.
“I was happy to see our girls start fast, especially after the long trip there. We have really started to emphasize the offensive side of the game and I am glad we got to see it pay off,” Head Coach Chris Pace said. “We know that starting fast and scoring early will be crucial come playoffs, so being able to see us do that is encouraging as we get ready for those games.”
Bobcat Baseball would complete the week with a commanding win over district rival Leakey by a score of 20-0. The Bobcats scored their 20 runs in just four innings at bat. Seth Ashley earned the shutout on the mound striking out 9 batters. Cody Swinney, Ashley, Britton Wickham, Dawson Simons and Holland Cook each had RBIs in the contest to lead the offensive attack.
“I was pleased to see the boys keep their foot on the gas despite clinching the district title two weeks ago. That kind of discipline is exactly what we will need going into postseason,” Bobcat Head Coach Bryce Sorbel said. “Winning district is an honor that the boys have worked hard for and now we are excited to see what the playoffs have in store for us.”
