Bandera Baseball Recap
On Monday, April 24, the Bandera Bulldogs JV Baseball traveled to Canyon Lake to take on the Hawks JV Gold team in their final game of the spring season.
The evening began with the Bulldogs at bat. After the first two players struck out, Freshman Kenai Jerome hit a line drive past first, and advanced to second on a steal. A walk on Sophomore Kelton Raab put him at first, but a third strike-out squashed a run home for either Bulldog.
Raab opened the bottom of the inning as starting pitcher for Bandera. Third-baseman Jerome stopped two consecutive line drives and threw to first baseman Freshman James Bower for the first two outs against the Hawks. After a couple of hits placed batters on first and second base, a fly ball caught by Jerome ended the inning with a score of 0-0.
Four Bulldogs went to bat at the top of the second, with only Bower making it to base, before three strike-outs put the Bulldogs back on defense.
The Hawks managed to secure five runs, and after catching a fly ball for the first out, Freshman Braidyn Lynch took the mound as relief pitcher in the middle of the inning. Raab relieved Sophomore Kyle Lowe as catcher, who moved to right field. Freshman Beto Rodrigues and Sophomore Lane Timmons were kept busy with hard hits to left and center field. Five batters in, Lynch suffered a line drive straight to his leg, injuring and grounding him for the remainder of the game. Sophomore Braiden Franklin stepped up to the bump, striking out his second batter and ending the inning with a score of 9-0.
At the top of the line-up, Freshmen West Cloudt, Brady Trussell and Jerome hit high flies, all of which were caught for three straight outs.
Franklin returned to the mound, striking out two Canyon Lake batters. A pop fly was caught by Franklin, making out number three.
No runs were scored by either team in the third inning.
At the top of the fourth, Timmons crossed home plate for the Bulldog’s first run of the game. Sophomore Michael Garcia also made it round the bases, making the score 9-2 before the bottom half. The Hawks were able to bring three more runners home before the game was called, with a final score of 12-2.
The Varsity Bulldogs traveled to Canyon Lake on Tuesday, April 25, losing their away conference game with a score of 11-1. Varsity is scheduled to host Canyon Lake one more time in their final game of the season on Friday, April 28, which is also Senior Night.
