Frontier Times Museum celebrates 90 years
The Frontier Times Museum has moved its annual Gala from the Fall to the Spring this year. The Gala will celebrate the museum’s 90th anniversary of being a part of the Bandera community. The theme this year is Emeralds and Diamonds, a traditional 90th anniversary theme. This year’s annual fundraiser will be held at 7 p.m., May 6, at The Farm Country Club, 475 Pue Road.
“This is our main fundraiser for the museum,” said Rebecca Norton, Executive Director for the Frontier Times Museum. “We do not receive any public funding for operations, so we rely heavily on this event to help us throughout the year. The funds we raise from our Gala give us operational support so we can provide educational programming and exhibits.”
Among the many educational programs the museum offers are free history lectures throughout the year, field trips for area schools and homeschoolers, and a free Traveling History Trunk program where trunks filled with historical artifacts are used by schoolteachers in the classroom. Funds raised through the Gala help continue these programs and other events and exhibits for Bandera and surrounding Hill Country communities.
Gala Chairpersons Catherine Carr and other board trustees have been very busy finding unique auction items for the event’s silent and live auctions. A wide variety of artwork, gifts, leather goods and gift certificates are being offered in the silent auction. The live auction items include a variety of trips to Arizona, Mexico, and a wine tour of Sonoma, California.
The museum is proud to have Custom Glass and Mirror, Hevenor Lumber, Good Times Ranch, Meier Ranch, ce, Hyo Silver, Good Times Ranch, Western Trail Antique Mall, and Lynn and John Palmer of Custom Glass & Mirror as this year’s Gala sponsors. Black Tie Affair Catering from San Antonio will create tasting stations throughout the event. After the auction, hit the dance floor to the band MishMash.
Tickets are still available at $85 per person or $680 for tables of eight and may be purchased at the Frontier Times Museum at 510 13th Street in Bandera or at the door the night of the event. For more information, please call 830-796-3864.
