Medina Lady Cats softball named Regional Quarterfinal Champions

Medina Lady Cats defeated Oakwood in two straight games on Thursday, May 4, to earn Regional Quarterfinal Champion honors. Oakwood jumped out to a quick lead in game 1 scoring 2 runs in the first inning before the Medina bats came alive to close the game out in five innings by a score of 32-2. Hallie Kunz led the offense with 3 hits and 8 RBIs. Kailey McCabe aided the effort with 4 hits and 7 RBIs, while Charli McCabe and Hattie Barton contributed 3 RBIs each. Barton earned the win on the mound striking out 8 Oakwood batters in the contest.
The Lady Cats continued their strong plate appearances in game 2 amassing 21 hits as a team to defeat the Lady Panthers from Oakwood 19 to 4. Kytlin Peterson and Kailey McCabe led the effort earning 5 and 4 hits respectively. Kunz, Ollie Turner, Audrey Gatlin, Lizzy Roman-Colon and Barton added 2 hits each. Peterson was the winning pitcher for the Lady Cats striking out 6 batters in five innings of work.
The series win advances the Lady Cats to the Regional Semifinal Playoff round, where they will face Slocum in a three-game series in Smithville on Thursday, May 11. The first game is set to begin at 4:30 p.m.
