Keep in Beat with the Bandera Library
By Mauri Guillén Fagan
Bandera Library Director
June is here! That means Summer Reading Programming is kicking off. For our little folks, come by on Thursdays from 10:30 a.m. to noon, beginning June 7 until July 27. We will have books, crafts, and performers or special guests each week. You can sign up in the library or online on our website www.banderalibrary.org.
Have you heard about Summer Pizza Reading yet? Well hold onto your hats, folks. Our friends at The Dough Joe are sponsoring the library’s summer reading program for teens and adults. On June 1, stop by the library to pick up a reading log. Once you complete the log you can take the form to The Dough Joe for free pizza.
Even after all that you still need something to do with your kids? Come by on Tuesdays any time to take advantage of the MakersCart. On Tuesdays we roll out every kind of crafting material you can think of up to the Children’s Library. Kids can use them to make anything their imaginations come up with. This version of crafting is based on free play which allows children’s brains the chance to think through ideas and build whatever they think up. Don’t tell them what to make – let them be the creators. Be sure to share on our social media what your kids dream up using the hashtag #BanderaLibraryMakers. It is always such fun to see each child’s unique mind come out when making their crafts. Makes the task of vacuuming glitter at the end of the day totally worth it.
Tomorrow is June 1, which happens to be the date our monthly book club meets at 10 a.m. This month the group is discussing the classic by John Steinbeck “The Grapes of Wrath.” It’s never too late to join the Book Club. Stop by the library to pick up the reading list for the rest of the year.
Saturday, June 3, is the monthly Book Fair hosted by the Friends of the Library. This is a great opportunity to pick up your dad or father-figure a good read for Father’s Day. There are tons of new and gently used books, DVDs, CDs, and audiobooks. Remember that your donation at the book fair goes to support the collection for the library. It’s a win, win for everyone!
Bandera Kronkosky Public Library is open Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Curbside service is still available for checkouts and business services. Free Wi-Fi is available 24/7. Stay up to date with library events by following us on Facebook (@BanderaLibrary), Instagram, TikTok (@banderalibrary), or sign up for our monthly newsletter through our website at www.banderalibrary.org.
Happy tales, y’all.
