Keep in Beat with the Bandera Library

By Mauri Guillén Fagan
Bandera Library Director

Here we are at the second half of June and Texas went from preheating to broil super-fast. The library will be closed on Monday, June 19, in honor of Juneteenth, National Freedom Day. The library will reopen on Tuesday, June 20, at 9 a.m. We have a display of recommended reads relating to the holiday so stop by the library and check out a book.
Tuesdays this summer is Maker’s Cart time. Each Tuesday morning, the library rolls out a cart filled with every kind of craft making material imaginable. Bring your kiddos any time on Tuesdays to the Children’s Library and let them have at it. Be sure to share and tag the library in any photos of your kids’ creations using the hashtag #BanderaLibraryMakers.
Thursdays are our Summer Reading Program which will continue until July 27. Come out at 10:30 a.m. for books, games, crafts and a guest reader or a performer. The program is geared for kids aged 4 to 12. Be sure to register your kiddos ahead of time.  The library’s veggie patch is ready for tending. Bring you little ones to do a little gardening and they can earn a free scoop of ice cream from the Bandera General Store. They can weed, water or read. A study conducted by Royal Horticultural Society in England found gardeners who talk or sing to their plants have better yield than those who do not. For our library veggie patch, kids are encouraged to get a little outside time and get a low-pressure opportunity to practice reading out loud. They can grab a chair and a book from the library, then read a book out loud to the plants.
Next Tuesday, June 27, is the next Adult Computer Class, at 4 p.m., in the Downstairs meeting room. Come out with your computer questions and get one-on-one help. The space is limited so be sure to call the library to sign up. If you can’t make it to this one, the next one will be the last Tuesday of every month. Be there or be square.
Bandera Kronkosky Public Library is open Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Curbside service is still available for checkouts and business services. Free Wi-Fi is available 24/7. Stay up to date with library events by following us on Facebook (@BanderaLibrary), Instagram, TikTok (@banderalibrary), or sign up for our monthly newsletter through our website at www.banderalibrary.org.
