Keep in Beat with the Bandera Library
By Mauri Guillén Fagan
Bandera Library Director
The Bandera Kronkosky Public Library is proud to announce we have received a $10,000 grant from the American Library Association’s Small and Rural Libraries Grants. This money will go to a mobile lending program for recipients of Meals on Wheels in Bandera County. The grant will cover the costs of the program for three years.
Meals recipients will receive a delivery of books, DVDs, magazines or puzzles from the library’s collection. Simply because a person is disabled or unable to leave their home, does not mean they do not deserve to access the many holdings of their local library.
In addition to funding additional staff support to be able to offer this service, the grant will also fund CD players and headphones for participants who are unable to read physical books and rely fully on audiobooks. We are grateful to the Silver Sage and their fleet of volunteers for their partnership in this effort. Together we will ensure the homebound population of Bandera County will have their bellies and their minds full.
Have you got a question about one of your devices or a general technology question? Stop by Sara’s Tech Café on Tuesdays in June and July from noon to 1 p.m. Our volunteer and technology savant Sara will be here help answer any questions you have about an iPad, laptop, Kindle or the like. Speaking of help with technology, the library now has adult basic computer classes on the last Tuesday of the month at 4 p.m. in the Downstairs Meeting Room. The class meets and each person brings their specific questions and as a group we go over the skill until everyone gets it. Space is limited so please call the library to sign up.
We’ve got five more weeks of the Summer Reading Program left. Come out on Thursdays from 10:30 to noon. Thanks to a grant from BEC, the library is offering an extra special Summer Reading Program this year. Each week a special guest comes out and we have read aloud time, games, prizes, and all kinds of incentives to get your kiddos reading and learning all summer.
Bandera Kronkosky Public Library is open Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Curbside service is still available for checkouts and business services. Free Wi-Fi is available 24/7. Stay up to date with library events by following us on Facebook (@BanderaLibrary), Instagram, TikTok (@banderalibrary), or sign up for our monthly newsletter through our website at www.banderalibrary.org.
Happy tales, y’all.
