Keep in Beat with the Bandera Library
By Mauri Guillén Fagan
Bandera Library Director
We have some great programming for tweens and teens in the next couple of weeks. Mark your calendars for the third Thursday of the month, at 4:30 p.m., when we have Anime Night. Anime is a style of animation that originates in Japan. At Anime Night, the tweens will screen a few episodes of an anime cartoon and will discuss it. And since tweens and teens are known bottomless pits, we will provide snacks. Come by the Downstairs Meeting Room for all the anime fun.
Thursday, July 20, is also the weekly meetup of the library’s Girls Who Code club. The kids are learning how to build robots with the goal of being able to build a battle-bot. Stay tuned for how the club’s bots compete.
Friday, July 21, is the library’s first ever Smoothie-Making Party at 10 a.m. in the Downstairs Meeting Room. This program is a collaboration with the Agrilife Extension Office and will teach teens and tweens easy recipes to create a healthy and delicious snack. Even the most determined anti-veggie eater won’t be able to resist a yummy smoothie.
There are only two weeks left of the Summer Reading Program, but still plenty of fun to be had. Join us on Thursdays, from 10:30 a.m. until noon. Each week we work some time in the program for kids to select their books for the week’s reading. Kids are checking out so many books while here for Summer Reading we are averaging 190 checkouts the day of the program. Just as a comparison, our average for weekday checkouts is 80 books a day. More than double. Way to go kiddos.
Be sure to save the date for the return of Storytime. On Thursday, Aug. 3, Storytime for Preschoolers returns at 10:30 a.m. We will have a special guest, Dr. Randi Mellon of Tooth Scootin’ Boogie. Dr. Mellon will host a dental checkup clinic for stuffed animals. If your little one is nervous at their dentist appointments, this program will give them the opportunity to learn what to expect and dispel any fear. They can bring their favorite stuffie to get their teeth checked and get to know a real dentist. Thank you Dr. Mellon.
Bandera Kronkosky Public Library is open Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Curbside service is still available for checkouts and business services. Free Wi-Fi is available 24/7. Stay up to date with library events by following us on Facebook (@BanderaLibrary), Instagram, TikTok (@banderalibrary), or sign up for our monthly newsletter through our website at www.banderalibrary.org.
Happy tales, y’all.
