Thriftier parents may be considering sending the kids to school in their summer shoes next month, at least just for two days. Bandera ISD’s first day for the 2023-24 school year is Thursday, Aug. 10, one day before the state-wide tax-free weekend begins.
From Friday, Aug. 11, to midnight on Sunday, Aug. 13, the annual tax-free weekend will begin for most back-to-school items. Qualifying purchases include shoes, clothes, school supplies and backpacks under $100, both in store and online.
Thanks to the Hill Country Samaritans, Bandera ISD and other vendors and volunteers, families can get a head start on stocking up. The Back to School Bash is set for Saturday, July 29, at the Lakehills Community Center. Backpacks filled with school supplies from pre-k to 12th grade will be given, free of charge, to all students - whether enrolled in public school, private school or homeschooled.
Other services provided will include hair cuts, physicals, vision screening and immunizations. BISD representatives will be available to help with registration.
The first day of school for Medina ISD is Wednesday, Aug. 16. The Pipe Creek Christian School will begin classes on Monday, Aug. 14.
