The Silver Sage has received a grant from the Texas Veterans Commission that provides assistance to veterans and their families in financial need. At the helm of helping people navigate the program is Silver Sage Veterans Services Coordinator Victor Polanco, IV.
Through the Veteran’s Financial Assistance Program, the Silver Sage can help eligible veterans, their dependents and spouses with one-time utility or rent/mortgage payments, providing food or certain medical services, and arranging transportation services. Beneficiaries will not be required to qualify based on income level; need is based on unpaid utility or rent/mortgage bills.
“This is a great opportunity for the six counties we are supporting, as there has never been this type of resource to help the veterans in this community before,” Polanco said, who formerly served as the Bandera County veterans service officer, before taking the position at the Silver Sage July 1. “I would like to personally thank Art Crawford and Silver Sage for pursuing this grant. We are working to get the word out across the area to ensure we are able to support as many veterans as possible. Our goal is to use every penny of the grant to support the veterans in Bandera, Real, Uvalde, Kerr, Kendall and Medina counties.”
The application may be accessed at https://silversage.org/veteran-services. Polanco may be reached by phone, Monday through Friday, at 830-328-6355. His hours may vary.
