Despite the heat, this year’s Back to School Bash was a success, bringing around 1,500 people to the Lakehills Community Center grounds, and providing 770 students with backpacks and school supplies.
Event coordinator Kelly Beedle said 120 volunteers, 57 vendors, and representatives from Bandera ISD were on site, serving food and helping families prepare for the 2023-24 school year. This was the fifth annual event, sponsored by the Hill Country Samaritans and BISD last Saturday.
Bandera ISD’s first day of school is Thursday, Aug. 10, Medina ISD’s first day is Wednesday, Aug. 16, and the Pipe Creek Christian School will begin classes on Monday, Aug. 14.
The state-wide tax-free weekend begins Friday, Aug. 11, and ends at midnight on Sunday, Aug. 13. Qualifying purchases include shoes, clothes, school supplies and backpacks under $100, both in store and online.
