Bandera County 4-H holds its 2023 Awards Banquet

On Aug. 8, the Bandera County 4-H held their annual Awards Banquet at at the Ridin’ the River Cowboy Fellowship Hall. Once a year, a banquet is held to award the 4-H’ers from their past year projects and accomplishments.
At the end of each year, 4-H members turn in a record of the various projects they were involved in, with either a project form or a record book.

Our Scholarship winners for the Bandera County 4-H Scholarship were Garrett Cielencki, Hadley Dorries, and Presley Dorries in the amount of $1,000 each.
State 4-H Scholarship recipients were Garrett Cielencki received a scholarship from KHC Family Foundation in the amount of $3,000. Hadley Dorries and Presley Dorries received a scholarship from the Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo for $20,000 each.
For this 2022-23 year, Bandera County 4-H had three State Ambassadors, including Texas Shooting Sport Ambassador- Coleton Trenkelbach, and Texas Fashion Ambassador- Shye Havelka.
In memory of Vicki Browning, the Shotgun Club presented an award to an individual who has demonstrated exemplary sportsmanship and enthusiasm for their club and their teammates throughout the year. These traits were especially important to Browning. The recipient of the Vicki Browning Memorial Sportsmanship Award is William Browning.
The Top Hand Award goes to individuals who demonstrate exceptional leadership, provide outstanding support to our program and are always dependable. This year’s awards go to Peggy Richardson and Cody Mayfield
Our Outstanding Adult Leader is nominated by our 4-H members, volunteers and clubs by submitting letters of nomination for the adult leaders who have had a substantial impact on their 4-H experience. This year’s award was given to Ashley Short.
Nominations for the Friend of 4-H Business award are submitted by 4-H members, volunteers and clubs. These community members support 4-H in many capacities, and it is our pleasure to recognize and thank them for their commitment to our program. This year’s Friend of 4-H Business Award goes to the Bandera United Methodist Church.
The Friend of 4-H Individual award recipient is a longtime supporter of 4-H programs, and the values those programs teach. The recipient is a role model and lives out what is believed to be the essence of 4-H. This year’s Friend of 4-H Individual goes to Gina Grothues.
The Superior of Excellence Award goes to a volunteer that is dedicated, provides leadership, and support for not only our program but most importantly the youth. The Superior of Excellence award goes to Reagan Dorries.
Rookie of the Year Award to a first-year individual who has excelled in their involvement with the 4-H program. This year this award goes to Kimber Blue.
Outstanding 4-H Member Award to and individual who has excelled in their involvement with the 4-H program. The Outstanding 4-H member for 2022-23 is Morgan Reinhardt.
The Bronze Star Award is based on 4-H involvement, personal growth, leadership, and community service for grades 3rd—5th grade. This year’s recipients are Dylan Spangler and Gregor Fullmer.
The Silver Star Award is the top award an Intermediate 4-H’er can receive at the County Level. The purpose of the award is to recognize 4-H members, in grades 6th-8th, for their leadership, growth and development in project work, and contribution to the county 4-H program. The Silver Star award goes to Logan Spangler.
The Gold Star Award is the highest award that a 4-H member can receive at the State Level. It is given only one time to a 4-H’er during his or her 4-H Career. The purpose of the achievement is to recognize outstanding leadership and contribution to the county 4-H program. Our Gold Star Recipients this year are Jalyn Lamb and Heather Baker.
The “I Dare You!” Leadership Award was first offered in 1941 by William H. Danforth, a successful businessman who dared young people to achieve their highest potential and to influence others through lives of leadership and service. This national award recognizes youth who strive to be their personal best and make a positive difference in their schools, youth groups, 4-H clubs, and communities. The “I Dare You” recipient is Heather Baker.
