Texas Master Naturalist, Hill Country Chapter, hosts August meeting
The Texas Master Naturalist, Hill Country Chapter continues to have in-person Monthly Chapter Meetings. The next Chapter Meeting and Advanced Training session is open to the public and will be held on Monday, Aug. 28.
Doors open at the Guadalupe Basin Natural Resources Center at 6 p.m. for snacks and socializing. A short business meeting will be held at 6:30 p.m., and the Advanced Training session is from 7:10 - 8:10 p.m. There is no cost to attend.
Certified Wildlife Biologist and Invasive Species Programs at American Bird Conservancy Director Grant Sizemore, M.S., will present the Science and Management of Domestic Cats.
Domestic cats (Felis catus) can make wonderful pets but also have the capacity to kill birds and other wildlife, spread infectious diseases, and cause nuisances in the community. Effective management, however, is often complicated by the species’ close affiliation with people and unique legal status. This talk will focus on the conservation and public health science underpinning the need to manage domestic cats and identify opportunities for organizations and individuals to advance science-based solutions that benefit cats, wildlife, and people.
Sizemore has earned degrees in Zoology and Environmental Science from Miami University in Ohio and an M.S. in Wildlife Ecology and Conservation from the University of Florida. He has worked in wildlife conservation policy, education, and research for over 15 years and is a certified wildlife biologist. He currently runs the Cats Indoors program at the Invasive Species Programs at American Bird Conservancy. Outside of work, he enjoys hiking, birding, and taking care of his (indoor) cat.
Monthly Chapter Meetings and Advanced Training sessions are hybrid, with the option of attending in-person, via Zoom or Live Stream via Facebook.
