The Bandera varsity volleyball team continued to roll through non-district play with a pair of victories over Marion and Cotulla last week, as the Lady Bulldogs moved to 18-11 on the year.
The week started with a five-set win over a solid Marion squad Tuesday night in a battle of the Bulldogs as Bandera hung on in a 25-20, 18-25, 25-23, 21-25, 15-9 finish. The JV team also defeated Marion in two sets (26-24, 25-21) while the freshman team fell (18-25, 16-25).
“That victory was a testament to the countless hours of practice and the camaraderie within our team,” Head Coach Sananda Molina said. “We showed incredible character in rallying back after setbacks and sticking together when it mattered most.”
The Lady Bulldogs carried that momentum into a senior night celebration Friday, as the program had the opportunity to celebrate its seniors class featuring Greta Sassoli, Jasmyn Villegas, Izabel Kennedy, Xara Martinez, Ashlynn Mott, Abby Prater and Cameryn Ouellette.
Bandera wasted no time dominating Cotulla, cruising to a 25-7, 25-11, 25-13 win. Martinez had 11 straight serves and two aces in the first set, while Ally Kline put together 12 consecutive serves in set two with one ace. Kinlee Lawlis and Jayla Blake combined for 11 kills in the second set, and the Lady Bulldogs carried that momentum into a set three win as well.
The JV Lady Bulldogs moved to 3-3 on the season with a dominant showing against Cotulla as well, sweeping the Cowboys 25-6 and 25-10.
“I couldn’t be prouder of the dedication and hard work our athletes displayed,” Molina said. “They executed the game plan flawlessly and demonstrated they are a force to be reckoned with. This win was another testament to their commitment to excellence.”
The Lady Bulldogs will be back in action at all three levels on Tuesday Sept. 5 at Somerset High School with District 27-4A play right around the corner. Six of the district’s seven teams are sitting at or above .500 with Davenport leading the way at 27-3. Navarro is 23-6, Wimberley is 19-7, Boerne is 16-9, Bandera is 18-11, Fredericksburg is 13-13 and Canyon Lake is 6-14 according to MaxPreps.com.
