Keep in Beat with the Bandera Library
By Mauri Guillén Fagan
Bandera Library Director
The countdown has begun for the library’s upcoming fundraiser the BIG GIVE. The Big Give is a 24 hour, online give-a-thon benefitting San Antonio area non-profits. Sign in starting at midnight on Wednesday, Sept. 20, until midnight on Thursday, Sept. 21.
You can go to https://www.thebiggivesa.org/organizations/bandera-kronkosky-public-library or stop by the library and pick up a QR code to make donating to your library easy and quick. We rely on the support of our community to bring you all the wonderful programs and services, not to mention the books, movies, and other forms of entertainment. Even if you can only give a small amount, every dollar counts. Thank you so much for your help.
Next week is National Voter Registration Day on Tuesday, Sept. 19. We will have a computer set up next to the circulation counter for filling out forms online. You can check your voter registration is current or register you for the very first time. The library also has paper forms you can fill out here and drop off at the post office. Register to vote at the library and get a sticker and an ice-cold popsicle.
Tuesday, Sept. 19, we are also hosting a Bond Informational Meeting in the Downstairs Meeting Room from 4 - 6 p.m. This is a meeting to get information on the upcoming School Bond where you can ask your questions about what the bond is about and how it will function.
Thursday, Sept. 21, is our monthly Anime night. This program is for tweens and teens Anime fans who meet on the third Thursday of the month to stream their favorite anime and discuss their most recent anime, manga or graphic novel they have read. And since no one likes to have a hangry teenager, snacks will be provided.
Save the date for two great events coming up at the end of the month. On Thursday, Sept. 28, from 4-6 p.m., we are hosting local author Mike Lowrie as he gets ready to launch his book tour for “House of De Zavala: The Legacy of the Black Heart Stone.” From page one this book reads like a fast-paced movie. Come out to speak with the author and learn all about his amazing stories.
The next day, Friday, Sept. 29, is our Family Space Camp from 4 - 7 p.m. This event is for all ages. Come out and take a trip around the galaxy as you stop at nine space stations where you can complete a fun craft and learn more about the solar eclipses coming. We will also be giving eclipse glasses to participants.
Bandera Kronkosky Public Library is open Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Curbside service is available for checkouts and business services. Free Wi-Fi is available 24/7. Stay up to date with library events by following us on social media (@BanderaLibrary), or sign up for our monthly newsletter through our website at www.banderalibrary.org.
Happy tales, y’all.
