A “suspicious-looking” package was discovered in a room by the cleaning crew at the Best Western on Main Street this afternoon. Bandera ISD administrators immediately implemented safety precautions at the middle school, while the Bandera Marshal’s Office, Bandera County Sheriff’s Office, Bandera Fire Department, and Bandera County EMS staged around the hotel.
According to authorities, the San Antonio Police Department Bomb Squad and ATF (Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives) took possession of the package, which was reportedly fireworks left behind by previous guests.
In a press release, Bandera Middle School Principal Bobby LaLanne said a “hold and secure” procedure was carried out on campus from 2:20 - 2:36 p.m., until the “all clear” was given by the Sheriff’s Office. Pick-up traffic was rerouted to the middle school gym at the end of the school day.
“There is no threat to public safety,” the Marshal’s Office stated in a public service announcement. “Thank you all for your patience and support during this incident. Thank you to all that were on scene and managing this situation, we are thankful for all the support.”
The Texas Rangers are assisting in the investigation, which is ongoing.
