A Bandera man accused of fatally shooting his partner remains in a San Antonio hospital.
According to Bandera County Chief Deputy Matt King, the 34-year-old suspect was shot by a deputy after opening fire on law enforcement in a San Antonio Walmart.
King said a call came in at 7:49 p.m., on Saturday, Sept. 16, that a woman was shot and lying in her front yard on Lakeshore Lane in Lake Medina Shores. The victim died on the scene.
King said the suspect was reported fleeing on a motorcycle/dirt-bike, which a deputy followed through Bandera County and into Bexar County. King said the pursuit was low-speed, at about 50 mph.
King said the suspect turned into the Walmart parking lot at the 8300 block of Hwy. 16, between Helotes and Leon Valley.
By this time, several law enforcement agencies had joined the pursuit. King said the suspect drove the motorbike into the store and took position, firing a shotgun at a deputy when he entered the store. King said the deputy returned fire, striking the suspect in the left arm.
He exited the store through a shopping cart entrance, and was apprehended in the back parking lot, where he was arrested and transported to the hospital by EMS. He has been charged with first-degree murder.
King said both the suspect and victim lived together with two children, ages 2 and 5.
“CPS has custody of the children at this time,” King said.
