Debbie Breen announces for Bandera City Council
My family first arrived in Bandera in 1904 and established Boyle’s Store in 1909. As with generations before me, I grew up in Bandera and take great pride in calling it home. After graduation from Texas A&M University, with degrees in Accounting and Business Analysis, I moved out of state to work for Boeing as an IT project manager. We moved back to Bandera County in 1999 to raise our child in an atmosphere that emphasizes small town values and community pride.
I have been self-employed for over 23 years and have a track record of active involvement in the communities that I live in. Some of my community involvement includes BISD Boosters Club, Boys & Girls Club Board Member, where I helped to bring Boys and Girls Club to Hill Country Elementary, ran Chili and Cajun Cookoffs for the club and volunteered at the Bandera Chapter. I was also Lakehills Library Board Member and President, St. Victor’s Church Board Member and President, helped organize and work the Mardi Gras parades, MLVFD volunteer for annual BBQ, Frontier Times Museum volunteer for the Labor Day Pro Rodeo events, along with supporting many local events as a business owner. I am a firm believer in volunteering and giving back to the community which is why I am running for City Council.
When asked what the most important issues for the city are, I believe the primary concern is improving the City’s infrastructure-which is expensive but vital to the community. Building a new sewage treatment plant should be the top priority to meet town's needs. Searching/applying/qualifying for grant money to help fund these projects is essential. I bring leadership, solution oriented organizational skills, and practical mindedness to get the job done.
Working actively with the Bandera County River Authority and Groundwater District to plan for water needs now and in the future for our community should also be a priority for the Council along with other infrastructure needs such as roads and maintenance needs. Developing more community events and the "hidden gem" of our city, the Medina River, to its fullest potential would benefit the residents of this town by bringing in tax dollars and income for local businesses.
The prosperity of Bandera relies heavily on tourism. Many citizens do not want their town to change, so it is imperative that we seek a balance of tourism while not losing the small town atmosphere and values that makes Bandera so special.
People have told me that they want their officials to act responsibly and act as true stewards of taxpayer money. They want their officials to be honest, fiscally responsible, accountable, and approachable. As a City Council candidate, I bring extensive and practical business experience, proactiveness, open-mindset, and teamworking ability, and integrity.
I am asking for your vote for in the upcoming election and a chance to represent you on the Bandera City Council.
