Teen athlete earns gold with Team Texas Parasports, sets national records
Back in July, Matthew Jeffery traveled to Hoover, Alabama, for the Move United Nationals. Matthew is a 14-year-old Adaptive Athlete, and this was his third time competing with Team Texas Parasports. In the past, he'd only competed as a swimmer; this year he added Track and Field events.
He had four swimming events and six track and field events. In his swimming events, he ended up the U-17 S8 Classification Gold Medalist in the 50- and 100-meter breaststroke, and the 200 individual medley. He also earned a silver medal in the 50-meter freestyle swim.
In his Track and Field events, he competed in the 100- and 200-meter runs, long jump, javelin and discus. He came home as the U-17 T&F 45 Classification Gold Medalist, setting new national records. Matthew ran a relay for Team Texas, earning them a silver medal.
In all, Matthew competed in 10 events, earning eight gold medals, two silver medals, and five new national records.
