Victorious Homecoming Week
By Lindsey Kunz
MISD Superintendent/Athletic Director
Homecoming Week in Medina proved to be a week of victories. Fun and fellowship began the week on Thursday, with the annual community tailgate party and pep rally. Students, parents and community members joined together to cheer on the Lady Cats and Bobcats and show their Blue and Gold Spirit.
The spirit continued on Friday, as the Lady Cats took to the court first to take on district opponent Utopia. The Lady Cats started off flat and dropped the first set before coming alive to take set two. Set three was a back and forth battle which eventually went to the visiting Utopia team. Medina would not be shut down, though, and came out strong in set four to earn the set win and gain much needed momentum to take set five winning the match 3 sets to 2. The win moves the Lady Cats to a 3-1 record halfway through district play.
Medina Junior High football was the next contest to start and the Bobcats came out strong scoring their first touchdown on the opening kickoff. Two more touchdowns were scored throughout the contest with the Bobcat defense doing their part to stop the Indians from Prairie Lea. When the final buzzer sounded, the Junior High Bobcats had sealed their own Homecoming night victory by a score of 20-18.
Next on the list of activities was the much anticipated Homecoming Coronation. Medina ISD was honored to recognize seniors Autumn Turner and Brandon Harms as the 2023 Medina Homecoming Queen and King.
The final event of the night began after coronation, as the Medina Varsity Bobcat Football team took on the Prairie Lea Indians for the first district contest of the season. The Bobcats scored first in the contest, but the Indians would not be denied. A quick score by the visitors would tie the game early in the first quarter. Strong offensive and defensive play by the Bobcats soon began to dominate the Indians, leading to a third quarter mercy rule win by a score of 58-13. The Bobcats are now 6-1 for the season and 1-0 in district play.
