Frontier Times Museum celebrates the moon and the sun
By Rebecca Norton
Executive Director Frontier Times Museum
The Frontier Times Museum is celebrating the Ring of Fire eclipse by honoring both the sun and the moon. Kick off the eclipse weekend on Friday, Oct. 13, at the museum at their Moonshine and Moon Pie Party. On Saturday, Oct. 14, the museum will be the perfect viewing spot with eclipse-themed games and arts and crafts.
The moon’s role in a solar eclipse is often overlooked. The museum plans on rectifying this oversight by making the moon the center of attention. The Moonshine and Moon Pie party will go from 6 - 9 p.m., and will feature moonshine tastings from Ole Smoky Tennessee Distillery and a nostalgic trip back to everyone’s childhood with delicious moon pies. Don’t forget your clodhoppers and come to dance to the Hot Pickins 57 bluegrass band.
Heavy hors d'oeuvres will be prepared and served by the Bandera High School Culinary Arts students. The party serves as a fundraiser for the museum and will include raffles for a variety of unique and interesting finds such as a handmade quilt, artwork and gift baskets. Tickets are $25 each and are available for purchase before the event at the Frontier Times Museum or can be purchased at the door during the event. You must be 21 years old to attend this event.
On Saturday, the museum is a great place to view the eclipse. While waiting for the eclipse, guests can make camera-less photographs with the sun as well as other solar and moon inspired art projects and games. All activities are family friendly and free with museum admission. Parking on the grounds of the museum will also be free. The museum is open from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The Frontier Times Museum is located at 510 13th Street, Bandera, Texas. Go to www.frontiertimesmuseum.org or call 830-796-3864 for more information.
