The Bandera varsity volleyball team fell to Navarro in straight sets Friday night, dropping the Lady Bulldogs to 21-19 on the season and 1-8 in district play.
Navarro took the first set 25-19 and narrowly edged the Lady Bulldogs 25-22 in the second set before securing the match victory with a 25-16 finish in the third. It was the fifth straight loss for Bandera since a straight set win over Canyon Lake on Sept. 22.
"Recent results tell me we're still working on putting it all together,” Bandera Coach Sananda Molina said. “We are still a very young program. As we grow in maturity and volleyball knowledge, we will become more consistent and put ourselves in a position to win. Consistency from the beginning of the season until the end will be what gets us where we want to be."
The Lady Bulldogs were led by Jayla Blake and Kinlee Lawlis on the offensive end, as the duo combined for 20 kills against the Lady Panthers. Ally Klien (15 assists) and Mary Freeman (11 assists) facilitated things for the Bandera offensive attack, while Taytym Moeller (14 digs), Lawlis (14 digs), Ashlyn Mott (12 digs) and Freeman (five digs) set the tone defensively. Freeman added two aces.
At the JV level, the Lady Bulldogs fell 17-25 and 21-25. The Bandera freshman team lost 10-25 and 21-25.
The Lady Bulldogs have three games remaining in the regular season, including a road match against Canyon Lake on Tuesday. Bandera will host rival Fredericksburg on Friday before hosting state-ranked No. 1 Davenport in the season finale on Tuesday Oct. 24.
The Lady Bulldogs enter the week in a tie with Canyon Lake for 6th place in the district standings, though Bandera has the head-to-head tiebreaker with the Lady Hawks. The Lady Bulldogs are one game behind Fredericksburg for the No. 5 spot.
The JV and Freshmen teams will begin at 5 p.m. Tuesday, with the varsity match set for 6 p.m., in Canyon Lake.
