Bandera American Legion to host Candidates’ Forum
By Susan L. Junker
Commander, Bandera American Legion Post 157
The Bandera American Legion Post 157, a nationally recognized nonpartisan organization, will present a Candidates’ Forum for all the candidates on the March 5 ballot in Bandera County. This forum will be held on Jan. 25, beginning at 6 pm. We request that you arrive by 5:30 p.m.
The forum will be held at the American Legion Hall at 205 12th Street, Bandera. Parking is available by entering at Western Trail Antiques off Hwy. 173 S to park behind the building, or entering at Chevron Icehouse off Hwy. 16 N/Bandera Road.
The “Equal Time Q & A Format” will be in effect. There will be volunteer timekeepers and door monitors. Given the number of contested races, we expect three to five questions per candidate with a response time of three minutes. During introductions and question responses, our timekeepers will alert candidates to the time remaining with signs of one minute, 30 seconds and then a “Stop” sign when they are out of time.
The sequence of events is as follows (times shown and the number of questions are dependent upon the number of participating candidates):
5 – 5:30 p.m.: Candidates arrive early to place signs & materials in the backroom by the kitchen: tables will be in place and marked for the various offices.
6 p.m.: Introduction by the Moderator
6:10 p.m.: Introduction by each candidate – two minutes each
6:30 p.m.: Conduct Q & A for all contested offices, beginning with Precinct Chairs.
8:30 - 9 p.m.: As time allows, the forum will be closed to allow for candidate meet & greet with audience members.
For more information, call or text 210-788-9160.
