Bandera senior center Isaac Segura was selected to participate in the inaugural San Antonio Sports All-Star Basketball Game to be held at Northside ISD Sports Gym on Sunday, March 24.
“It’s a huge opportunity to have been chosen to represent my school’s basketball program in the first ever San Antonio All-Star basketball game,” Segura said. “I’m very excited that my hard work has paid off and to showcase my abilities and make my hometown proud.”
Segura, a four-year member of the basketball program at Bandera High School, has played an integral role in the Bulldogs’ success each of the last two seasons. An honorable mention all-district selection last year, Segura is averaging 6.3 points and 6.0 rebounds per game as a senior this year, helping to guide the Bulldogs into the playoff picture for a third consecutive season.
“Isaac has been a defensive anchor for us for two years and has really developed his game to become an even bigger force for us in district play this season,” Bandera head coach Brady Keane said. “He leads by example and leaves it all on the floor both in practice and in games. He’s a lot of fun to coach and I’m really proud of him and the recognition he has earned.”
Segura will compete for Team Gold and TMI coach Bruce Bowen in the 1A-4A All-Star game at 2:30 p.m., on Sunday, March 24. Team Gold includes players from Bandera, Boerne, Canyon Lake, Central Catholic, Cole, Davenport, Fox Tech, Kennedy, Natalia, Pearsall, Randolph, TMI and St. Anthony’s among others.
Team Gold will practice Wednesday, March 20, through Saturday, March 23, before competing in the All-Star Game on Sunday, March 24.
“It’s a huge honor to be coached by a retired Spurs player and San Antonio Hall of Fame member like Bruce Bowen,” Segura said. “I’m excited to learn everything he has to teach me and play for Team Gold.”
Segura and the Bulldogs will host Canyon Lake in a big district game on Tuesday, Jan. 30, before traveling to Fredericksburg on Friday. Bandera will close the regular season at home against Davenport and Boerne.
