The Bandera boys track and field team started the year off with a bang, taking first place in the varsity boys 4x100m relay and ultimately finishing fourth with 113 total points.
The 4x100m relay was comprised of freshman Breydan Gherman, sophomore Colton Boyd, freshman Cooper Gunderman and junior Tyler Quinn.
Gherman was among many breakout stars for the Bulldogs in the first meet of the year, also finishing third in the 100m dash with a time of 11.61. Gherman also ran a strong anchor leg in the 4x200m relay alongside Quinn, Esteban Leyva and Boyd to help the team finish 2nd with a time of 1:34.40.
Leyva had a big day as well, setting a personal best in the 110m hurdles (17.06) and 300m hurdles (43.69 in addition to being a part of the 2nd place 4x200m relay team.
Boyd ran in all three varsity relays, contributing to a first-place finish in the 4x100m relay, and second place finishes in the 4x200m relay and 4x400 relay.
“The guys had a great start to the season at the Bruce Faust Warrior Relays in Ingram,” Bandera Boys Head Track Coach Sam Farrell said. “A lot of guys set PRs and we also ran some of the best relays we’ve had in a few years. The performances I saw early in this season have me feeling great with a positive outlook for the rest of the season.”
