Lady Bulldogs place first at Bruce Faust Warrior Relays

By Brady Keane
The Bandera Prophet

The Bandera girls track and field team competed in the inaugural Bruce Faust Warrior Relays on Wednesday Feb. 21, dominating the competition while posting 169 points to finish first ahead of Class 5A Kerrville Tivy (136 points).
The meet was an important one for Faust’s daughter, Bandera Head Girls Track Coach Brooke Ashcraft, who was pleased with the Lady Bulldogs effort at the meet honoring her father.
“This meet was a personal one for me with Ingram ISD honoring my father and naming the meet after him,” Ashcraft said. “The girls knew I was excited to bring them back home to shine on my hometown track.  My varsity girls brought home a team championship, and I will always remember that.”
The Lady Bulldogs took first place in all three relays, with Gabby Barrera, Jesse Battle, Le Parks, and Preslee Greenlee placing first in the 4x100m relay. Barrera, Jayla Blake, Sydney Moore and Kinlee Lawlis placed first in the 4x200m relay, and Blake, Taytum Moeller, Lawlis and Jazlyn Dickerson placed first in the 4x400m relay.
Other first place finishes included Lawlis in the 200m dash, Moeller in the 400m run, and Layney Bowman in the high jump. Blake was 2nd in the 200m dash, Merry Robinson was 2nd in the 400m run and the Pole Vault, and Moeller was 2nd in the 800m run. Carlye Niccum was 3rd in the 3200m run, Moore was 3rd in the 100m hurdles, Julia Freeman was 3rd in the Pole Vault, and Dickerson finished 3rd in the 300m hurdles to round out the podium finishers for the Lady Bulldogs.
“The girls had an amazing first meet of the season,” Ashcraft said. “Many girls had personal bests and or started off the season where they finished from last year. I felt like each girl really stepped up to the plate and was ready to compete, and that shined through with each of their results.”
The Lady Bulldogs will be back in action for a home meet at Bulldog Stadium this Thursday Feb. 29.
