This morning, local authorities released a statement that a suspect in the murder of an 88-year-old man had been arrested in Mexico, and would be extradited to Bandera County. However, that was not the case.
Chief Deputy Matt King said the Sheriff’s Office received information from the Federal Bureau of Investigation that Freda Thomas, a suspect in the murder of Robert Isaacks, had been apprehended by Mexican authorities. Upon arrival to extradite her, representatives with the U.S. Marshal’s Service said the subject in custody was not Thomas.
King said he did not believe it was an untimely hoax, but rather incorrect identification. There was no information available why the woman, whose correct identification is unknown, was arrested.
Isaacks was reported missing on Nov. 15, 2023. His body was recovered two days later in Crockett County. King said Isaacks’ Jeep was found abandoned in Las Vegas. Ring camera footage released by authorities shows Thomas and Isaacks entering Isaacks’ home the day he was reported missing.
“We don’t know if [Thomas] is in Mexico,” King said, adding there were no further updates on the investigation.
