UIL Academic, Speech and Debate teams compete at regional tourney, three qualify for state

The UIL Academic, Speech, and Debate teams had a great showing at the Regional tournament, ending the weekend with three state qualifiers. Congrats to:
The computer science team of: Alec Smith, Nicholas Morales, Sammy Bottoms and Sarah Guajardo. This team consistently qualifies to regionals and is coached by Bryan Koerlin.
(Junior) Micah McCreary 5th place in Lincoln Douglas debate and 6th place in Informative speaking. This is his second regional qualification.
(Senior) Savannah Venegas - 3rd place in Prose Interpretation (state qualifier). This is her second regional qualification and first state appearance.
(Junior) Edyn Knudtson - 2nd place in Ready Writing (state qualifier). This is her second regional qualification and first state appearance.
(Senior) Steven Koonce - 1st place Regional Champion in Poetry Interpretation (state qualifier). This is his first regional qualification and first state appearance.
And, the Speech and Debate team earned 3rd place overall sweepstakes. The team included: Alyssa Ruch (LD debate), Isabella Chapa (Poetry), Micah McCreary (LD debate and Informative speaking), Savannah Venegas (Prose and Persuasive speaking), and Steven Koonce (Poetry).
Ready Writing is coached by Stephanie Jones; this is Jones’ second state appearance for BHS.
Speech and Debate is coached by Emily Huber; this is her tenth state appearance for BHS.
Way to go, Bulldogs! The state meet will be held at the University of Texas at Austin May 13-15.
