National Day of Prayer observed in Bandera County on May 2
Bandera will celebrate the National Day of Prayer on Thursday, May 2, from 6-8 p.m., on the Bandera County courthouse lawn.
The National Day of Prayer is observed annually on the first Thursday in May. Designated by the United States Congress, the president each year signs a proclamation encouraging Americans of all religions and denominations to pray on this day.
Sharing common roots with Thanksgiving - a fall day of thanks and prayer introduced under British rule and made official by President Abraham Lincoln in 1863, President Harry S. Truman signed the National Day of Prayer into law in 1952 as its spring counterpart.
In Bandera, the ceremonies will begin promptly at 6 p.m. The Bandera High School NJROTC will Post the Colors, followed by the National Anthem, sung by Jennifer D’Spain. Opening comments will be made by Col. Theresa Schulz of the Bandera American Legion Post 157, and CPT Shikesha Colony, U.S. Army (RET).
